Exotic potato chips from around the world.

Ten years ago, we traveled around Spain, back before anyone had turned the culinary lights on. It seemed like every restaurant in Spain had the same menu. And it was pretty much the Monty Python Spam sketch -- with ham instead of Spam.

On the way to Portugal, we stopped at a big, modern truck stop to fill up. Since it was lunch time, we thought we'd check out the restaurant. But when the special was ham, eggs, ham, ham, bacon, and ham, we decided to just buy some snacks at the attached mini-mart.

Imagine my reaction when the bag of Lays potato chips I'd picked up turned out to be "Jamon Jamon" flavored. We were too hammed-out to try them, but since then, I've made a point of trying exotic potato chips flavors wherever I go.

I've had Saveur Poulet Roti et Thym (roast chicken with thyme) and Spaghetti Bolognese in France, Bife Criollo (Creole beef) in Argentina, Dill Pickle in Montreal, Lime in Mexico, and Roast Lamb in New Zealand. On a recent visit to Seaside, Florida, I discovered Zapp's -- a Louisiana potato chip maker with taste-bud busting flavors like Tabasco and Cajun Crawtator. Absolutely addictive.

You can order Zapp's chips online at http://www.zapps.com/zapps_crunch.htm

We're going to the British Isles in June, and I'm on a mission to try Prawn Cocktail and Roast Pork. The next time you travel outside the country, visit a grocery store and check out the snack aisle. You'll be amazed at what you'll find.
