Fortuny's fabulous Venetian lamps and scarves available online.

Venetia Studium Venice ItalyVenice is always new. No matter how many times you return, there's always something fantastic across the next bridge or campo. If you love to shop, or just window shop, Venice is out of this world.

Fine paper, brilliant Murano glass chandeliers, gorgeous antiques and paintings, and fabulous masks are just some of the temptations. But our favorite is the exquisite creations of turn-of-the-century artist Mariano Fortuny.

You'll see his delicate silk lamps, undulating scarves, and sumptuous textiles in the windows of the Venetia Studium shops. On our third visit, we decided to stop Venetia Studium Fortuny Venicedrooling and start buying. Our first purchase was a modest one - a sea-green, crushed-velvet scarf with a Murano glass closure. Sheer perfection.

A painter, theatrical and fashion designer, the multi-talented Fortuny developed a unique process for printing textiles. Many of his techniques and designs are patented and have been handed down over the years. The factory where the fabrics are made is housed in a former Venetian convent. The garden and showroom are open to the public by appointment.

If you came home from Venice without a keepsake, or if you have a special gift-giving occasion approaching, don't despair. You can get your Fortuny fix online at www.venetiastudium.com.
