For good Catalan cooking at very reasonable prices, this Barri Gotic favorite has been going strong since 1924. It?s family run and homey, and service is non-nonsense. If duck?s on the menu, try it.

Beltxenea, Majorca 275
The food, wine, and service here are among the best in town. But the beautiful modernisme apartment house in which the restaurant is set is almost reason enough for a visit. From the parquet floors to the exquisite fireplace, this is someplace special. In summer, you can dine outside in the formal garden. Dress up, take money and prepare to be wowed by the contemporary Basque cuisine.

El Xampanyet, Carrer Montcada 22
This is Barcelona?s best Xampaneria or "Champagne Bar." It opened in 1929, and is now run by the original owner?s grandson. The colorful blue tile, marble tables, zinc bar, and atmospheric Carrer Moncada location all add to the appeal. The tapas here are some of the best in town and you can sample the local cider in addition to Spanish cava. A very enjoyable spot.

Els Quatre Gats (The Four Cats), Montsio 3, 0
This stylish, fin-de-siecle restaurant has been a Barcelona institution since 1897. The location, in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, the decor which features posters by Picasso and other artists who frequented the cafe, and the food all ensure an enjoyable night out.

In business since 1835, Los Caracoles has been serving spit-roasted chicken, fresh fish, and snails (caracoles) to happy diners for decades. Although popular with tourists, it?s anything but a tourist trap. The bustling dining room with its open kitchen is colorful and inviting. And in summer, there are tables outside. Nick Havanna, Carrer Rosello 208
Since opening in 1986, Nick Havanna has been of the most stylish bars in Barcelona. The mirrored ceiling, dramatic lighting, mobile bar, cupola and columns make it a design showcase. During early summer, contemporary classical music is performed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is a great spot for a nightcap.

Textil Cafe, Carrer Montcada 12 -14

The name, which means "skylight," refers to the glass roof that can be retracted in good weather for dining under the stars. Roses (Cadaques)
El Bulli, Cala Montjoi
Frequently cited as one of the top three restaurants in Spain, El Bulli is a bit out of the way, but well worth the drive. It is the recipient of an amazing three Michelin stars. To maximize the experience, have the 12-course "degustation menu." It contains some of the most unexpected culinary combinations imaginable -- all of which are virtually guarantee to delight as well as astonish. A parmesan ice cream sandwich ? Cuttlefish and coconut ravioli ? Don?t knock it until you?ve tried it. The white-washed villa provides wonderful ocean views and all in all, El Bulli is one of the most memorable dining experiences you?ll ever have.
