    Day 1 - 2, Albuquerque
Since Albuquerque is the main air gateway for the region, this trip starts and ends there, so make arrangements to pick up your rental car at Albuquerque airport.

This itinerary offers a very leisurely pace. If you have less than 10 days, you can fly into Albuquerque and drive directly to Santa Fe, which takes about an hour and fifteen minutes. If you are really pressed for time, you can do Taos as a day trip from Santa Fe and return there for overnight.

There are several ski resorts in the region. Those who are skiing in Sante Fe can drive there directly from Albuquerque. Those who are skiing outside Taos may want to overnight there -- depending on what time you arrive in Albuquerque -- and then drive to your resort the following morning.

    Day 3 - 5, Santa Fe
Although Santa Fe does have white-water rafting, hot-air ballooning, and other outdoor activities available, these experiences are better outside of Taos, so we recommend that you do these kinds of activities there.

Santa Fe has some of the best performing arts in the country. Their Opera, Chamber Music Festival, symphony, and theater are truly world class. If you want to enjoy these attractions during your visit, you?ll need to purchase tickets well in advance. There are lots of great outdoor activities you can enjoy in the Taos area. We especially recommend a sunrise hot air balloon ride. These should be reserved in advance. There are several Balloon Companies offering flights. For more information, use the search engine and the parameters Taos and Local Transportation. Or use the link to the right.

    Day 9, Albuquerque
The drive from Taos to Albuquerque takes about three and a half hours, so it?s possible for you to fly out the same day if you have a late afternoon flight and drive straight back. It is pushing it though. So we recommend that you have a leisurely drive back, spend one more night in Albuquerque, and leave in the morning.
